Our Sunday school class, consisting of eight girls about 15 years of age, | wish to donate some money to our | new church. Please suggest to us how ;:‘ teould raise this money.—Maple | tung, simply and effectively made. There are many ways to make mon- ey. Not knowing the circumstances in your caee, it is hard to suggest. I attended a very clever “experience’” meeting, where each girl had made a dollar by her own efforts during the summer vacation. Of course, the dol- lar limit was nct obligatory, but all had to make 100 cents. One girl made currant jelly and sold it to her friends at so much a glass; another pressed her brother’s tmul-' ers; one stopped buying ice cream* soda, and one saved earfare. You might have one or two sales on Saturday afternoon for house- | wives, having al! sorts of home-cooked | delicacies. I am sure with eight clev- er girls the new church will receive a liberal donation. SRR | A Difficult Question, | Your advice has helped more thm\‘E one girl, so I come to you for the first time, hoping to be helped also. 1! have been engaged to a young man | for a year, but we do not feel able to marry now and probably will not | for two or three years. What we want ' to know is, is it right for us to still be engaged, knowing this? We ha\'ej talked of breaking the engagement,! but as yet we have not, not knowing which is best to do. I do not belleve in long engagements. We are both: anxious to do the right thing, what.: ever that is.—Unhappy. The supper or luncheon | is to be served at 8 p. m,, and we would ltke to have courses and de- sire you to arrange the menu. We want as elaborate an affair as you think would be in keeping. One thing that I had better mention that may assist you in arranging the menu is that we wish to serve cold turkey for the meat.—Mother. At that hour you shouid serve a sup- | per, not a luncheon, which is a mid- dle of the day function. Serve cold turkey, escalloped oysters, hot rolls, olives, celery, cranberry jelly, then a fruit salad, cheese straws, ice cream in individual forms, coffee and the wedding cake. To Entertain Informally. Can you suggest some way of enters ! taining a party of young people be- tween the ages of 20 and 30, very in- | formally? There will be about 12 in the party. Also what would vou ! suggest for simple refreshments, and prizes, if they be awarded?—X. C. L. Did you ever hear of a really new method of entertaining? Nearly every novelty is only something old done in a new way. I think cards are the best in most cases, with perhaps a lit- tle contest at the end while the host- e88 sees to refreshments. The other day I saw a jolly hour spent in guess- ing what flowers each guest represent. ed by wearing some article to indi- cate the blossom. The rose, peony, violet, tiger lily, pansy, ete, were there, Marking the Bridal Silver, { I8 silver to be given a bride always engraved with the initials of her maiden name? 1Is her first name per missible. to use?—M. L. Yes, both silver and linen bear the initlals of the bride. Near and dear friends sometimes use the first name, and sometimes a pet cognomen s en- graved on a personal gift. This s done on silver picture frames which are much in vogue at present, pre- sumably to hold the husband-elect’s photograph. The Proper Thing to De. Kindly tell me the proper way of eating a club sandwich in a restau. rant, also whether boulllon 1s sipped { from the cup or eaten with a spoon? —Country Girl. A club sandwich is eaten with g fork, the toast, if very dry, may be broken and eate. with the fingers. Bouillon is taken from a spoon except the last few swallows which may be taken from the cup by lifting with one of * the handles and rising the cup to the lips, MADAME MERRI. 41 yards 42 Shantung Costume.—This shows a style in heavy natural-colored Shan- | l Th- skirt has the right side of front laid on left in a wrapped seam, have Lakeland, Florig, —_— | % § UEF, S DR. The uee of small bows on the latest models represent a very special nov- | elty, or rather revival, and will play an immensely important part during the coming months. Although they are usually assoclated with the early eighties, they have appeared in many dress schemes before that time, and in the old pictures of crinoline days one sers not a few gowns treated in this fashion, the bows starting on the corsag® and b ing carried all down the front. For evening wear they give a par- ticularly dainty finish to some of the gowns which are being prepared for the season, as, for instance, on a charming frock of pearl-white char- meuse, to*the corsage of which are affixed full panniers of gaily pattern- ed pompadour silk covered with bou- quets of rose-colored blossoms. These panniers are rather ingeniously lifted behind, where they are crossed and carried upwards to be fastened on the ghoulder blades in the style of a Wat- teau pleat. The white satin under- dress which is visible below the pan- niers, is apparently closed by a ser- ried row of imitation pearls used as buttons and set in little bows of pale forget-me-not blue velvet i This toilette, although it presents some difficulty for the dressmaker on account of the lifted panniers, is very becoming. and shows a decidedly orig- {nal trend of fashion as compared with the styles of the past months. %, French Shoes Are Smart. A critic of woman's dress was asked what first struck him about French women, and his reply was the smartness of their footgear, for they are said to be the best shod women fn the world. Everywhere in Parls he had noted the exquisite, shapely, gay little shoes of the Parisienne trip- ping through the boulevard and ave nue, square and street. There Is a good deal in this opinion, for the French boot and shoe are invariably elegant even in their most utilitarian form, and their practical purpose is considered next to their charm. Lingerie Ideas. Lingerie is important in the world of dress. Slips, petticoats, combina- tions, and night dresses are made to match the dainty wardrobe of the well dressed woman. Matinees of Jap. anese crepe are bought by every one. One of smoke color with a lining of blue chiffon is a model much favored. 2 OO CPO AP O PCEOS O FSQERDO ; | CIGARS A. H. T.
