Fecause the Journal has referred to ister John Brown, Mister William Smith and Mister Benjamin Jones as John Brown, William Smith and Fenjamin Jones it has been ripped up one side and down the other and chloride of sodium if not capsicum rubbed in the rip. Not so fast, “Messieurs;” lct's ar- gzufy a little. You are familiar with the expres- sion “between the D— and the deep Llue sea.” That's the Journal's fix in this case. Sticklers for the use of this ancient form, fast becoming ob- solete, insist that we use it, while 9¢-100th of the present day press would laugh a derisive ha, ha- if we | d1d. The Journal wishes very much to be respectful to every one deserving, of respect whether he be an especial | friend of the paper or mot and we want to give you the most positive assurance that if your name appears in these columns as plain J. W. Smith, we mean to be just as re- levectful, just as courteous as if we |said Mr. J. W. Smith, J. W. Smith, Esq., Hon. J. W. Smith, Maj., Col. or Ceneral J. W. Smith. The Journal has just as high regard for J. W. Smith, if he be a good upright ciui- zen as it has for J. W. Smith, A. M., Ph. D, F. R. S, Ph(ool), etc. Apropos of this very subject editor Chris Codrington, while a little off on county division, i8 abreast of tha procession on the use of “Mr.” In a recent issue of the Del.and News he made this forceful observation: “Some men feel awfully hurt if one writes a notice about them and does rot use the “Mr.” Did you ever hear of ‘Mr.” William J. Bryan, “Mr.” Theodore Roosevelt, *“Mr.” Abra- kam Lincoln, or “Mr.” George Wash- ington? The “Mr.” is a handle used mostly by colored people and in po- lite society. Since this question was brought home to the Journal it has examined rumbers of its exchanges and found but cne so far clinging to the old gtyle and he is an old soldier nearly ripe for the grim reaper. Sorry, too, that he happened to be an old sol- dier for they, like the Elks, are en- titled to the b. p. 0. e. ilo you recall how harsh and grat- ing it sounded to your ears when nmany of the schools of the North and rn.any of the fathers and mothers supplemented the tcaching of the children and they were taught to drop the sir (eire) and madam and instead of saying *yes, sir” ‘yes, riadam,” they responded with a curt yes or no? Yes, “Mr."” is passing and in order to keep in line with the onward narsh of the journalistic procession this office has *“‘cut it out,” not even allowing its application to the *‘col- orcd people.” Having been accustomed all thes: years to the use of Mr. the Journal is free to confess that it discontinued its use reluctantly. It does yet sound a little blunt, in speaking of a digni- fied, elderly man to drop the mister buy it seems best to do so. Yon observe the Journal and other papera still say Mr. and Mrs. Smith. And og for other titles—Dr., Capt., Col., Prof., etc., the woods are full of them. They too, are dvomed.—Day- | tona Halifax Journal. ENDORSED AT HOME. The family of Mr. A. M. Lansford was considerably upset to find a spake in the pantry of their home on South Third street Saturday. The reptile was a highland moccagsin, and probably entered the house in search for eggs, for which all snakes are ravenously eager. It was soon killed but Mr. and Mrs. Lansford couldn’t help being nervous the remainder of the day, whenever they thought how close their little two-year-old boy | had passed several times to the! enake. In a city the size of Ocala, it isn't an uncommon thing for snakes to come into town and rob hens’ nests, and they enter houses sometimes, though not often. In the case of a black snake, which isn't poisonous, there is no danger, but any other enake is likely to be a very disturb- [ ing factor. Coachwhips are not poi- sonous, but they are pugnacious, and | a large one is a dangerous enemy tur' 'a woman or child. Kingsnakes are reither poisonous nor viclous, but they are seldom seen in the country, let alone the town. All these snakes, however, are great enemies of ven- omous snakes, as well as rats and mice and shouldn't be killed unless it is necessary. Anybody can plcki up a black snake or a kingsnake | w/ithout harm, but a coachwhip will | wrap around and crush, if it can, anything that approaches it too closely. As some of them are six feet in length, and the body of each is one steel-like muscle, they are dangerous enemies. The rattlesnake 18 probably the only snake in the country that carries enough polson to kill a grown and healthy man, but moccasins and adders, and even | the little garter and tree snakes, urcl venomous enough to be very dnnger- cus and even deadly to a weaker per- son. For some unknown reason, there have been more snakes than usual seen in Ocala this fall, but the visi- tation is not likely to be permanent. The fact that hogs are the mortal enemics of snakes, and hogs are not allowed in the town, may have some- thing to do with it. Hogs are gen- erally impervious to snake bites, probably from some peculiarity of their circulation, which does not carry the poison far from the spot siricken. A rattlesnake, which wil! ficht anything else in the world, will run nwny from a hog.—Ocala Star. Darken the Hair A Little Sage and Sulphur Makes Gray Hair Vanish—A Remedy for All Hair Troubles. Who does not know the value of Saze and Sulphur for keeping the bair dark, soft and glossy and in voud condition? As a matter of fact, “viphur is a natural clement of haix, and a deficiency of it in the hair is beld by many scalp specialists to te "conneeted with loss of color and vi- tality of the hair. “Unquestionably, there is no better remedy for hair and scalp troubles, especially prema- ture grayness, than Sage and Sul- phur, it properly prepared. The Wyeth Chemical Company of New York put out an ideal prepara tion of this kind, called Wyeth's cage and Sulphur Hair Remedy, la vhich Sage and Sulphur are com- lined with other valuable remedies for keeping the hair and scalp in clean, healthy condition.
