PEEBLES. *“No, my hair isn’t really thin, as hair goes,” agreed the girl as she settled berself in the hairdresser's chair and helped tuck the white bib around her neck. “But it’s so fine! It grows won- derfully for curly hair—you know, they say curly hair is never long—but mine really is surprisingly long, if only it would stay in! You see, it comes out dreadfully—I must have a wonder- fully healthy scalp, or I'm sure I'd be bald at the rate it comes out, except for the rapidity of its growth! “All 1 want these treatments for is to make it stop falling out! Do you think they’ll do the work? I want to try one or two first, and if they seem to do me good, then I'll take the whole course. S0 you see, you'd better give me a particularly good treatment this time. “My hair oily? No, never! Yes, it may seem slightly so just now, for I've been using a tonic that makes it that way, but you ought to see it when it's just washed! It's so fuffy—it looks as if 1 had oceans of it—that's one consolation. 1 think it's better to have fine hair and not have so much, but have it fluffy, than have coarse, straight hair that never looks decent, don't you? Oh, yours is straight, isn't it? But then yours isn't very coarse, is it? Most people haven't very fine hair, have they? But then, 1 suppose they huve othier redeeming features. “I hope this tonic won't make my hair greasy—I can't bear that! If it does I'll never come again! My sister is that way—she imagines that just be- cause she teaches kindergarten she is doing something important—'training the future men and women,’ she calls it—and she's always studying for it and she absolutely hardly ever goes out with me. She's awfully selfish that way. Not at All Hard to Make, and the Good Wishes of the Giver May Bo Expressed in the Daintiness of the Present. If you are not able to afford an ex- pensive gift for the friend who is go- ing to be married this month, and cannot embroider handsomely enough to add an elaborate set of doilies or bit of house linen to the “shower” which loving friends are getting up for the little housekeeper-to-be, make the bride a pair of these pretty room slippers which may be fashioned en- tirely of ribbon, and are so soft and supple that they may be folded and tucked into a corner of the traveling bag. First, cut four sole-pieces from the wide ribbon. These sole-pieces should be about ten inches long and three inches wide, longer and wider if the bride is a big girl with a generous foot. Round off the four corners of the oblongs, but do not attempt to shape the sole otherwise. The sole picces are placed back to back with a £trip of thin cotton sheeting between the two layers of ribbon, the sheeting ne quilted together with small titches in diagonal lines. Lo sides of the slipper are made of the ribbon attached all around the gole without gathers at one edge, the othir edges being drawn up with an el run through a casing.
