Indianapolis, Ind., Aug. 17.-—-Wil- liam J. Bryan, here yesterday, pre- dicted the election of Wilson aud Marshall, and stated that his serv- ices are at the disposal of the Demo- cratic national committee. Bryan accused Roosevelt of appro- priating his issues. Three proposi- tions promulated by Roosevelt, Mr. Bryan declared fallacious and not iu accord with his views or with the views of other Democrats. The three, he said, are Roosevelt stand on the trust question, his concentration-of- power theory and the Roosevelt be- lief in the third term. “You may quoté me as saying that Roosevelt believes in allowing the trusts to exist, and he proposes to ! control them by a bureau in Wash- ington,” said Bryan. “The plan is a concentration of power and a step | toward Socialism. It will be found as impracticable in practice as it has been found impossible to effect the regulation of fronchise porations.” “If a municipal franchise corpora tion can corrupt a City Council when the members live among their neigh- holding cor- bors, how can we hope effectively ! regulate a billion-dollar monopoly through a bureau at Washington?” The taritf is to he issue, said Bryan. “The Democrats will not lose votes by the presentsturmoil,” tinued “We Republican votes than we will lose Democrats, Lope that the Republican party. a the paramount Bryan con- will =et more wsed to he, divides along lines as nearly equal as possible. Investigation by the police at St, Petersburg brought out a new story regarding the burning of Thomas Lancaster, the small son of Mr. and Mrs. 1. I. Lancaster and no arrests were made. The police said they were convinced that the burning of the boy was accidental and there- fore took no action, the father of the youngster stating he believed it was not intentional. The boy was badly burned about the hips and on one arm when a cup of gasoline was thrown on his loth- ing by Will Thomas, and the fluid was ignited by a match tossed by Bruce Blackburn. The police said they found that, according to the witnesses, the gasoline was thrown | on young which the Lancaster by accident. match was head flew off, igniting the soaked clothes of Lancaster strength of this story vere issued.
