This essentia] step toward the ameliora- tion of sanitary conditions of our city is greatly welcomed by all of our citizens who are desirous of making Lzkeland the most healthful, as it is row the most attractive town in Florida. Time was when boards of health, pure food inspectors and such kin- dred bodies, whose duties it now is to look after the health of commit- tees were not deemed necessary, but as cities advance and grow in popu- lation, the great problem of sanita- tion increases until, if not taken in time, becomes 1 menace not only to the health but to the prosperity of the town. That we, as a city, are entering an unprecedented wave of prosper. ity, no one can doubt, but the foun- dation of it all is health. Let us see that our foundations are broad and strong. Health, wealth and prosperity are ours, but the greatest of them all is health. That we safeguard this priceless treasure is the duty of ev- ery single citizen. That our city fathers aro keenly alive te the importance of this part iz evidenced by their prompt steps in creating this board of health. It is the wise man who takes heed for the morrow, so it is the far see- ing authorities who take this action to prevent epidemic, taken the most having already ntialotall -prep- aration for a severace system in our | Erowing town AS thoush all would give aid to this protection of health, other wise men ave now interesting themselves in inanzurating a movement for a hospital. Let us lay aside all personalities and petty jealousies and unite our strength in behalf of the children. In them we are building for future generations; let us take heed that they may rise and call us blessed. ANl these forces working towards the development of our town will bring forth mighty achievements, in which none are taking more pride than does the Women's Club, which has joined this movement of Progress upward and onward for Lakeland. — Snail Culture Profitable, Frenci® farmers find snall culture a profitable undertaking. As many as 600,000 “first quality” snalls, the price of which throughout the year aver ages $1.70 a thousand, can be reared | on an acre of land. They have to be fed only once a day, preferably in the evening, and though extremely vora clous are by no means fastidious. After a fall of rain, which geems to sharpen their appetites, a bed of 100,000 will demolish a barrow load of cabbage in a very short space of time. Luxury and Dissipation.
