Mr. W. J. Estridge started out vesterday afternoon with his wife and child for a ride in the Lakeland Steam Laundry automobile, and when turning the corner near their home, sustained an accident, which, though not serious, was quite painful. A stick of timber about four feet long was in the roadway, and in trying to run over it the machine struck one end of the timber, with the re- sult that the other end caught in the opposite wheel. The machine was moving, and with both wheels caught the car turned, running into a tree. Mr. Estridge was thrown out and the kaby and the windshield came into contact, with the result that the child was quite painfully cut. The machine was stopped at once, and the family, upon :aking stock, found they were considerably bruised, but otherwise not seriously hurt. The machine will be in operation by to- morrow, the damages being slight. Ay R. F. Editor Telegram: If you will al- low me a little space 1 will tell in my way of the Farmers Union pic- nic on Lake Gibson at Capt. W. Y. Carter’s, 1 suppose we began to ar- rive on the grounds at about 9:30 a. m. and the crowd rapidly gath- ered until 1 suppose there were a hundred or more present, and at 10:30 the address of welcome was very ably delivered by Rev. M. H. Murrell, followed by Prof, H. P. Walker on the subject of co-opera- tion, with a masterful speech, and he showed up the great need of organi- zation so plain till the man though a fool could see the im- portance of it. Then Rev. J. R. Wells followed with a very admir- able speech on the subject of educa- tion and farming, setting forth many of the possibilities of the farmers and then showing the impossibilities of the farmer as he stands alone in the organized world. and 1 am at a loss it understand how the world's pro- ducers can and will stay out of an organization like the Farmers Union standing in their own light and also in the way of others. And I wish to say to all worthy subjects, come and join us and we v:ill do thee good. So this closed the morning’s program and T wish to say this was very in- teresting to the older ones. And now comes dinner in which all seemed to be very much interested. We had an abundance of the best of the land; go0od enough for a king or a queen as to that. The Union reassembled at 1:30 p. m., at which time the audience lis- tened to an address by Brother S, S, Grifin and he gave us many good thoughts by which if we would put them into practice we would be boti wiser and happier without injury to The next speaker was J A Drigeers with a few rambling re marks telling how to grow cow peas fer profit. Then came Brother G, 1. Lewellen, twenty minutes’ hrim full of good bright ideas, by which if wo would put into practice we would come out more than conquerers, Last, but not least, came Capt. \\ Y. Carter with many of his bright ideas and suggestions which if fol- lowed doubtless many of us would live better and enjoy life more. This closed the exercises of the day, bid- ding each other good-by in the fond hope of all being permitted to gather on the same plot May 17, 19 with hundreds of other good citizens who stand clothed with the helmet unionism.
