But now and then such an occurrence takes place amid the scenes of our every-day lives; the actois are those whom we know, and the full force of the tragedy strikes us with shocking effect, In the horror of the great mis- fortune that has thus been brought home to us, we are wont to make re- solves that we will shelter those dear to us from the possibility of ever par- ticipating in a like grim tragedy. And for a little time, perhaps, we do somewhat fades | wateh those dear ones more closely: bt the horror away with the passing of time, and wo lapse into the old careless ways and are Iulled into security by the! belief that nothing of the kKind could happen to OUR girls or boys.
