AND MRS. SKIN- NER THANKFUL Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Skinner of 415 Lake street and North Dakota avenue, wish to thank the gentlemen, some two or three dozen in number, who worked so valiantly to save their| home from fire Saturday morning, which must have been burning some time before it was discovered break- ing through the roof of! the kitchen. To say it was a narrow escape from destruction is putting it very mildly We truly hope now the Council wil! hasten the day for the city water tc be extended out to West Lakeland. Pumping water for a fire is not easily accomplished. Fortunately tubs and buckets were already full of water for other purposes, but certainly came in handy. While some were going with buckets others were pumping. We thank one and all, also a number of ladies who rendered valuable assist- ance. MR. AND MRS. J. C. SKINNER. Saved and Salved It. “It was a terrible situation.” said Dubbleigh. “There we were hub deep in the sand and the tide rising. At the end of an hour the water was up to the floor level of the tonneau, and then I managed to get hold of an old cuss with a team of horses and he hauled us out.” “By George! that was a narrow escape. What did you give the old fellow for rescuing you?” said Higgs. I offered the old duffer $10, but he was a retired sea captain and he attached the car for salvoge.” said 207 North Tennessee avenue. 5-13-6p. ROOM 7. A resident of South Bend street, Woodbury, heard a noige in her yard, the other morning, and, looking out of the window, saw the dog in the act of killing the last of nine hens. Armed with a club, she went into the yard and beat the dog into submission, but by that time all her hens were dead. The first mention of it in the scriptures is in Genesis, where Joseph made a hasty toilette when called to go before the king and “gshaved himself.” Nearly a century after, shaving the head is mentioned. Ezekiel alludes to the “barber’s razor.” Of course, everybody knows that De lilah was the first lady barber men- tioned. S. L. A.
