My commission expires September 1913, 13, Coasting by a Boy on Roller Skates. “The ingenuity of the American boy is shown in his abllity to make things for himself,” remarked an Eng- lish visitor the other day. “Passing down Lewis avenue in Brooklyn one Saturday afternoon I saw a great: number of boys and girls enjoylu' themselves roller skating, and among them I noticed one boy in particular who was on ball bearing skates. “He was carrying a hockey stick and on the curve of the stick he had fastened a pair of wheels off an old roller skate. Half way up the stick he had fastened a short plece of cur tain pole, enough to form a seat. “When he got to the top of the bill he sat on the hockey stick as it it were a hobby horse, and what with | the wheels on his feet and the wheels | on the stick he had the ride of his lite down the hills and seemed to en- joy it more than most persons do a motor car.” London Eccentrics. Our London eccentrics! You may see a man trotting down Tottenbam Court road every morning—down the roadway. He is well dressed up to his head, but hatless. In his hand a bag. Generally you will find a swarm of boys running after him. Now and then he has been arrested on suspiclon. He is not a lunatic. The boys drop off, the constables are disappointed. He is just a man who has decided that a bit of exercise is for him in the morning, that a hat is absurd, and that a bag is neces- sary to contain the appurtenances of his calling in the city. 8o each morn- ing the man runs from N.
