THE SALE OF CIGARETTES. It has been called to the atten- tion of this paper that cigarettes are being freely sold to minors by more than one merchant of this city. 1t is possible that these dealers do not know that they are violating a State law in making these sales. Some parents of boys who are being sup- plied with the “coflin nails,” do know this, however, and we are writing this in a spirit of friendly warning to save somebody possible trouble. It is not tor us to dictate how anybody should run thewr business, or to offer eriticising as long as people keep sin the law; but we believe mest merchants would get along just & it it they did not sell Lion is to the best methods of farm- ! The university! faculty who accompany the train for missionary purposes are in the em-! ploy of the state and are conscien- tiously endeavoring to forward the Lest interests of the people who pay them for their services. While we do not share in any ex-) treme depreciation of the intelligence and industry of the Florida farmers as a body, we are willing to admit that there are wide differences in the results attained by them under circumstances of much similarity. It is further to be admitted that they are not uniformly posted as to the character of their differing soils and therefore make the largest return for the same amount of labor and quan- tity of fertilizer. It may also be true that many of them are not ac- quainted with the kinds and propor- tions of fertilizers which will pro- duce the largest yield and the best! quality. ! The mission of this teain is to in-| form them on these points, and inci- dentally to stir up afresh an active interest in farming pursuit, These iustraction ¢k should be 5 a accompanied by the formation of clubs and societies ameng the farm-| crs tor mutnal assistance and en- courazement , not to speak of unity and co-operation in action.
