It appeared that on one occasion Mr. Browning's con had hired a room in a neighboring house in which to ex- hibit his pictures. In the temporary absence of the artist, Mr. Browning was doing the honors, the room being half filied with fashionablo triends. Mr. Browning was standing near the door when & visitor, unannounced, made her app ince; he immediately shook hands with the siranger, or tried to do <o, when she exclaimed: “Oh, 1 beg your pardon, sir, I'm the cook. Mr. Barrett asked me to come and see his pictures” “And 1 am very glad to gee you." said Mr. Browning, with ready courtesy. “Take my arm and 1 will show you around.” =Mrs. Andress Croscce, “Red letter Days of My Life™ One of Life's Problems. We are involved =0 early in the prejudices of g0 many whose interest s concerned to communicate them to us, that it becomes extremely difficult to distinguish through the rest of life what is natural to us and what is artl- ficlal. Ready With Suggestion. A superintendent of a city Sunday school endeavored to give the summer Mmeetings added attractiveness. Upon a certain warm Sunday lemonade was served. At the close of the service the superintendent announced that slips of paper would be passed round and the puplls allowed to make sugges- tions as to methods of making the Mmeetings still more attractive. One youngster wrote: “Put more sugar ia the lemonade.” "Cyrus Raymond, of Danbury, Conn., ;lnn:g amoug the first of the north- | erners 1o discover the beauties uund advantages of the lake region, where Cthe family still own a winter home and Jarge tract of land on Luke, Juliaua. : [ Mr. K. Hane Gives Some Reminiscences of Gen. Finnegan Many of the Florida Veterans who served in the war between the States have telt disappointed not having seen any mention in the press of Gen. Finnegan, one of Florida's able Generals, He was a prominent man and held the respect and esteem generally of those who had the pleasure of his acquaintance, State officials held frequent consultations with him as he was in command of all the troops in the State and had 1 clear idea of state affairs. It was to him that the enviable U. 8. Sena- tor, the Honorable D. L. Yulee who was in Washington and heard the feclings expressed by northern rep- resentatives and statesmen, wrote Gen. Finnegan that a settlement with abolitionist was out of the question and advised him to use his| {efforts to get the state to withdraw irom the union and it was carried. He gave his power and interest to the State. fortified St Johns luff, three <hips of U. S. navy, the Paul s, Isaac Smith and Water Witch, but they landed a large infantry {forces, superior in number that the small southern army was withdrawn. The little army was then employed t other important points, until like Sherman, afterwards made in Georgia and the Carolinas, but found Gen. Finnegan at Olustee ready to dispute his march. Seymour's army was defeated with heavy loss, and if Gen. Finnegan had have had a suffi- cient cavalry force the Northern army neved would have reached | to With the small force to] —PHYSICIAN— | Special attention given to and Gynecology ‘l\'t'lil?ll‘l\')' Building LAKELAND, ‘Pone 132 FLA.
