Society — Personals — News Of Interest To Women ITEMS OF INTEREST TO EVERYONE SUE JONES, Editor Monday, December 6, 1954 THE KEY WEST CITIZEN Page 3 Santa Claus Is Auctioneer At Fort Taylor Wives’ Lunch Friday The Christmas spirit was very much in evidence at Fort Taylor Friday when Santa Claus made a special visit during the Officers’ Wives Club luncheon. . ‘He not only auctioned lovely hand made gifts for the benefit of the club’s fund for Christmas baskets, but kept the members in the Proverbial stitches with his antics The club was all decked out for the luncheon with clever de- corations carrying out the season’s theme. The decorating committee yhad made small, fat Santas and placed them at vantage pcints thoroughout the lobby. They silver- ed large starfish, turned them up- side down and used them to hold tall red candles on the punch tab- Tes, and even gilded coconuts and peciaaa them to use on the man- Name tags were fastened to gaily ‘wrapped ‘Christmas “presents” — in. miniature. The luncheon tables were set up on the patio and with the excep- tion of a big Santa Claus centering the main table, all the table de- corations featured native materials. Gilded congh: shells filled with tropical .greens and -wood roses holding red candles and gilded palm boats holding gold and silver sea feathers, silvered croton leaves and bright red Brazillian pepper were placed all along the tables with pine branches. Christ- man ornaments and beads in be- tween the conchshells and plam Some of the gifts that Santa auc- tioned by means of “closed bid,” “Chinese” and “straight” auctions included homemade fruit cakes, colorful. luncheon and bridge sets, two water colors of Japanese scen- @s, frivolous aprons and Christ- mat, decorations. The residents of the home join- ed together in singing ‘Happy Birthday” to Reese James while ice cream and cake were served. Mr. and Mrs. William Vette pro- vided the entertainment. Color slides were shown of the Rocky Mountain National Park and the Red Rock Formations of Colorado. Mr. Vette described the scenes as they were viewed. Both resi- dents and guests were impressed by the breath-taking scenery and the program was most enjoyable.
