Page 10 Jenner Raps Involvement In Red Intrigue WASHINGTON (#—Sen. Jenner (R-Ind) said today recent Senate hearings indicate some Americans have involved themselves in Chi- nese Communist intrigue against their own country. “This group of native-born Americans was fraternizing with the enemy while the Chinese Com- munists were shooting and starv- ing our soldiers in Korea,” Jenner said. “(Now some of them are try- ing to tell loyal Americans what. wonderful people these Commu- nists are.” Jenner’s statement was made in announcing publication by the Sen- ate Internal Security subcommit- tee of testimony taken last summer at public hearings from| of th William H. Hinton, of Putney, Vt., John W. Powell, of San Francisco, and other witnesses. Jenner is chairman of the subcommittee. Both Hinton and Powell claimed constitutional protection against possible self-incrimination in re- fusing to say whether they were Communist party members or to answer numerous other questions. Jenner said both men have been propagandizing in the United States for conciliation of Red China since their return from the Orient @ year or more ago. Bowell took over the direction of the news magazine China Re- view, published in Shanghai, after the death of his father, the late John B. Powell, in 1947. Jenner said the younger Powell had made the magazine “‘a Com- munist organ,” adding that the Chinese used it as “must” reading in their prison camps. As for Hinton, Jenner said he had gone to China as an agricul- tural specialist and remained to work for a Communist-dominated provincial government. The sena- tor said both meti had worked for the U.S. government and had been sent to China at U.S, taxpayers’ expense. Hiss To Leave Penitentiary Sat. LEWISBURG, pa. #—Alger Hiss will leave Northeast Federal Peni- tentiary about 9 a.m. Saturday. Warden Fred Wilkinson said he will be met at the main gate by members of his family in an auto- mobile, probably to drive him to New York. Wilkinson said it will be up to Hiss to determine whether he will submit to photographs and inter- views and the gate. Hiss, former State Department official convicted of perjury in con- nection with answers he gave be- fore a congressional committee on Communist» activity, served 3% years of a five-year sentence. He was given time off for “meritori- ous good time.” Autopsy Fails'To Show Death Cause FORT LAUDERDALE (®—An au- topsy failed to show tlhe cause of death of Gloria Gay Baker, 26- year-old blonde secretary who died at the residence of her former employer. I will appreciate an early poet as be has become controversial at'a neighbor- hood bar, Walker, Miami, A, This is a very interesting question, but very difficult to give an answer of a definite nature. | * There is no scientific evidence that moonlight in any way will speed up the spoilage rate of fish. The absence of light is benefi¢ial to the growth of bacteria located on the surface of the fish since the ultra- violet rays of the sun destroy any germs that they come in contact| ¢ with. However, it is neither the light from the sun nor the moon; but rather the heat generated by the sun that increases the rate of spoilage. With an increase in tem- perature (up to a certain degree) the metabolism increases. This in- crease in metabolism enables the bacteria to carry on their functions at an increased rate. Thus it is not light but heat that causes spoliage. Q. What is the difference be- tween a black grouper and a gag? A. These two large and closely related fish are often mistaken for one another, The black grouper (Myeteroperca bonaci), may be distinguished by the darker, squar- er blotches which cover the. body and tail. The intensity of the blotches may vary according to the “mood” of the fish, and some- times may be quite faint. The gag, (Mycteroperca microlepis), is of a uniform dark brownish color and is without markings. Both of these groupers grow to a length of three feet and attain a weight of 50 pounds, ‘They are important food fish locally, The black grouper has an ive range, while the gag appears to be almost solely con- fined to the Florida reefs, where it is abundant, LEGAL NOTICE NOTICE UNDER ad tie name of “Florida Keys Realty,” O.
