lectronic FE seam Builds Own Home Here Residence Is Filled With Labor-Saving By BILL SPILLMAN When an electronic engineer builds his own home, Mke David Pease is doing at 1510 Von Phister Street, you could expect it to be filled with electronic gadgets, and it is, Pease has been working for the| Past year constructing all phases | of his two bedroom home from the | Plumbing to eabinet making. The! cost is the amazing factor about the construction. Pease says that the total will only be $5,800. Rain Alarm The home will be equipped with! devices like a rain alarm that) rings a bell and a automatically} closes the windows. The bell is to tell Mrs, Pease to go out and take} in the wash. Also in the line of electronic appliances, will be silent light switches, an intercom to every room in the home including an out- let at the front door that will per- mit talking to someone at the front door even from the bathroom. Pease designed the house him-| self, including the drawing of the| blueprints. He has placed the | kitchen in front of the house which | allows his wife to see what is going on in front of the home without leaving the kitchen. Mrs. Pease is a teacher at the Key West High School. Passes Inspection Contrary to rumors about town, Pease said that the building in- spectors have been most cooper- ative in inspecting and assisting him with the construction. He made the disclosure after being asked if the inspectors were mak- ing it hard for him because he was doing his own work. Pease stated that the only build- ing permit he could take out for the construction was for $9,000 even though it is only costing him $5,800. He said they based it on about $9 a foot for construction cost. The only thing that Pease said disturbed him was the fact that he could not get local Jalousie les- men to come out to measure and cost | sell him the windows. He said that Now Available... NEON On Easy Payment Plan Gadgets he finally went to Miami to buy | them. First Experience This is the first time Pease has ever built a house before. He stat- ed that he has learned it all while building. With the exception of the jelectric wiring, he is an amateur | in the construction business. The $5,800 total cost includes everything except his labor. The | home has Cuban tile floor, Jalousie | windows and doors, tile bath, all inside doors are sliding type, a} heater fam and light fixture in the bathroom, and built in cabinet and) dressers. | The living room has an open ceil-| ing of juniperwood. The home is constructed of concrete block and has plaster walls inside. The Foot | is the built-up type. Pease by his own work is iore| : |ing Key Westers that with a little| part time work for about a year, they can build their own $14,000| | home for only $6,000 if they really want a home. Pease is an electronics engineer | with the Pennsylvania State Uni- versity working with the develop- ment sections of the Navy. BUILDING PERMITS J. Abreu, 706 Whitehead, drive- way, $100, R.
