Coulter’s a. -ss, Dr. H. C. Campbell, high school principal, told the parents that he was “proud of these students, “They represent the best in the school in ‘can do.’ They have shown that they can attain a goal.” He congratulated the new mem- bers on attaining “‘this goal’ but reminded them that there is ‘al- ways plenty of room for gorwth and asked them to continue to learn and to serve so that they could look back and ask themsely- “ “Leadership,” Rev. Officers of the local chapter are seated in the foreground— , Girl Scouting In Monroe County Girl Scouting in Monroe County: which comes under the jurisdiction of the Florida Keys Girl Scout Council, has shown a fifty per cent increase since the council was or- ganized less than a year ago — which may be the reason for the number of willing Girl Scouts who voluntarily gave up honors of their free time to fill the worker’s kits for the United Community Chest - Red Cross Appeal. _ To date, eleven new troops have been organized and two re-activat- ed. Two of the eleven new troops were organized in Marathon last June. Since’ school re-opened, Girl Scouting has grown beyond all ex- pectations. The anticipated number of new troops for the entire school year has been reached already with possibilities of more before next June. The biggest lack in the Scouting “| program in Key West is places to hold troop meetings. Organizations willing to provide a place for a Girl Scout or Brownie troop to meet are asked to get in touch with Mrs. Toth. The organization does not necessarily have to spon- sor the troop — just provide a “troop home.” In the past year the following troops have been organized: At the Presbyterian Church, an intermediate troop with Mrs. Bur- ton Rider as leader. In the Poin- ciana area four new Brownie troops have been organized with membership divided into age groups, and one Brownie troop re- activated. Mrs. Clara Reynolds is the lead- er of the reactivated troop and other leaders and co-leaders are Mrs. Edith Hodges with Mrs. Mil- dred Laird as co-leaders; Mrs. Don Jacobs, leader and Mrs. James Crowell as co-leader; Mrs. Virginia McBurney, leader and co-leaders, Mrs. Margaret Johnson and Mrs. Dorcas Baker; Mrs. Helenmae Beard, leader with Mrs. J. The new troops will be recogniz- ed at the meeting of the Florida Keys Council at the Wesley House on Thursday night. It had been rumored ne some time. Mr. and Mrs, Eddie Cantor will give an engagement party for the couple Saturday at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Cantor helped discover Fisher. The singer is in New York but plans to fly here Saturday for the party.
