Page $ THE KEY WEST CITIZEN Tuesday, September O'Dwyer Charges Politics Entered In Tax Claim WASHINGTON & —. William O’Dwyer, former Democratic may- or of New York, contends that “political and other ulterior con- siderations” are back of a $9,699 federal income tax claim against him. A suit filed in his behalf in the U.S. Tax Court yesterday disclosed the.Internal Revenue Service has filed a claim for that amount against O’Dwyer and his former wife, Sloan Simpson, for the years of 1949 and 1950. O’Dwyer’s petition, filed by his brother, New York attorney Paul O'Dwyer, contested a government claim that he had understated his income for the two years, It said there had been only an inadvertent omission of $155 in dividends re- ceived by the ‘former Mrs. O'Dwyer. The petition also defended de- ‘ductions, challenged by the gov- be feet which O'Dwyer said were eee expenses for furthering Simpson’s modeling career oa for outlays O’Dwyer' made as ambassador to Mexico, He held that post in 1950-52 and still lives in Mexico City, Dancer's Wife Is Cancer Victim Cancer has claimed the \ life of — Fred Astaire's 46-year-old Phyllis Livingston Potter As- taire, the dancer’s wife for 21 }» died in their Beverly Hills sterday after an illness had divorced Eliphalet Nott Potter Il, a broker, in 1932 after a five- year marriage.
