Brady, Security Offi- cer of the Key West Naval Air Sta- tion, is the first reserve officer on the station to receive a Naval Con- tract guaranteeing him a definite period of active duty. This new contract is the Navy’s answer to the problem confronting reserve officers now on active duty who wish to make the service their career, To give the career man some security the Navy Depart- ment drew up a limited number of contracts ranging from 2 to 5 years in length, guaranteeing officers a definite period of active duty. If they are released before the ex- piration of their contract they will receive compensation based on the duration of the contract. Approximately 1,300 reserve of- ficers out of the 5,000 eligible can- didates were offered contracts, con- sequently the selected few are well qualified. Lt. Brady received a contract commencing in 1955 for the follow- ing three years. At the expiration of the contract he will be eligible “to apply for a renewal.
