The Juniors based their nomina- tion on Knight’s long service ir many community drives and civic clubs, especially his work with the polio foundation and student em- ployment program. Mrs. Edward D. Strand Visits With Parents Mrs. Edward D. Strand of Syra- cuse, New York, is visiting her parents, Dr. and Mrs. C. W. Mor- rison at their home at 1310 John- son Street. Mrs. Strand, the former Caroline Morrison, will be in Key West until Friday when she will return to Syracuse. Shaped rods, obtainable in most drapery departments of stores, Local Girls Attend “Girl’s State’ In’ Tallahassee Four Key West girls are in Talla- hassee this week: attending the an- nual “Girl’s State’ sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. They are Miss Alicé Mari Villa, Miss Millicent Taylor, Miss Betty Ann Henning and Miss Marie Rendules. The girls were driven to Miami on Saturday by Gretng McClain, Girl’s State Chairman for the local auxiliary unit, where they joined Girl Staters from Dgde County and traveled the rest of the way to Tallahassee on a chartered bus. The girls will be housed at Flor- ida State University and will con- duct the affairs of the mpthical “Girl’s State of Florida,” at city, county and state levels. Girl’s State is an Americanism project of the Legion Auxiliary. They are scheudled to return on Saturday evening. Miss Villa was sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary; Miss Taylor by the Key West Woman’s Club; Miss Henning by the Busi- ness and Professional Women’s Club; and Miss Rendules by the Alumnae of CMI. All four girls are high school Juniors selected by the faculties for outstanding citizenship. Alumnae Association is endorsing its past president, Mrs. Mary Lee Graham, as candi- date for the American Legion’s “Outstanding Citizen” award this year—basing its. endorsement on Mrs. Graham’s past service with the association, as well as with other local organizations, and her enviable record this year in her present office as president of the Key West Chamber of Commerce. It was also announced that Marie Rendueles, 1901 Flagler Avenue. in Tallahassee this week attending Girl’s State. Miss Rendueles is a ;Student at the Convent of Mary Immaculate, and is sponsored at Girl’s State by the C.M.I. Alum- nae Association. The association sent its first stu- dent to Girl’s State in 1948, when Mrs. Graham was president of the Alumnae Association, This became an annual project and each suc- ceeding year, the club has spon- sored a) student from its Alma Mater. Miss Rendueles is expected back in Key West on Saturday, July 3, and upon her return will report on her activities in Tallahassee to the Alumnae Association. |Sinawiks To Meet With Mrs. Harris This Evening The Sinawiks will meet at the home of June Harris on Flagler Avenue tonight. There will be no Program due to the fact that the meeting falls on the fifth Tuesday of the month. At the last meeting of the club, the records of accomplishment and service by the members of the Keyettes, girls service club at Key West High School, sponsored by the Sinawiks, were discussed by the members .. who selected Sarah Bringman as the “Outstanding Keyette” of the year. Miss Bring- man received a medal at class night exercises and her name will be inscribed on a plaque which will hang’ in the school’s trophy room. Miss Bringman and Kathryn Sanchez entertained the Sinawiks with several duets which were en- joyed by the club.
