Link Reports On Southern Baptist ‘Concern Over Gains Of Communism Rev. Harold H. Link, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will be back in the pulpit on Sunday after having attended the Southern Bap- tist Convention held in St. Louis, Mo. The Rev. Mr. Link said upon his return here that the leaders of the denomination are seriously con- cerned about the world situation and the inroads being made by Communism. “If the march of the Anti-Chris- tian movement is to be stopped,” Mr. Link said, “we are convinced that there must be a great re- awakening of the Christians throughout the world. Military might is a very weak weapon against ideology. Fire must be fought with fire and the Christian Faith offers the only fire that can ‘quench the torch of Communism.” | Convention Experiences ‘The pastor is expected to recount some of his experiences during the convention as he speaks in the coming services. The annual Daily Vacation Bible School of the church begins at 8:30 a.m., Monday and continues for two weeks. Daily sessions will be held Monday through Friday with dismissal scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Mrs. Janet, Jenking, superinten- dent, and her corps of workers have arranged a very interesting program for the school and activi- ties have been provided for pupils through 17 years of age. All those attending the Bible School will be guests at the annual church picnic scheduled to be held at the Monroe County Beach on Saturday, June 26. * To Aid in Workshop The church will also cooperate fm the audio-visual aids workshop to be conducted by the Extension Department of the: University of Florida at the First Methodist Church on Tuesday, June 15, under the auspices of the Key West Min- isterial Association. Leaders of the church program will be seeking ways to enlarge and improve that m. ‘Youth week will be observed in thé church during the week of July 4th, during which the young 4 will conduct. the services business of the congregation. First Psalm Is Coulter’s Sermon Text ‘The first Psalm will form knee background of the sermon to be given at the First Presbyterian Church tomorrow morning. The Minister, Rev. Richard E. Coulter, will speak on the theme by a verse in the-First Psalm ‘And He shall be Like a Tree Planted by the Rivers of Water”. The picture presented, in this verse, is of one who trusts in God, of a person of spiritual strength, fruitfulness and a continuing vig- or in life and message. As the earth would be. barren and cold without the beauty of creation so would the Church be cold and fruitless without the min- istry of Spirit filled Christians who strive to do the will of God. Result of Trust The result suggested by the Psalmist is that all who worship God should strive to live a better life, one more useful, more beau- tiful, and more fruitful in good than ever before. To be more thouchtful, prayerful and loving are the things that will demon- strate the spiritual strength of those who are ‘‘The planting of the Lord”. At the Evening Worship hour a new series of sermons will begin} with the Minister’s sermon on the first verse of the Epistle to the Hebrews. This will mark the| seventh time in the last ten years that the Minister of the Presbyter- ian Church has given this study on the Epistle to the Hebrews. Significant Epistle ‘The Epistle to the Hebrews is orie of the most interesting and} most productive of results of any of the writings of the New Testa- ment.
