Preparation For Service Is Rev. Coulter’s Theme Preparation for Service will be emphasized in the sermon to be at the First Presbyterian tomorrow morning. The Seripture and text will be taken from the Book of Judges in the Old ment. Versification of scripture, I verily believe, was a device of the Devil to obscure the larger truth. However, there is undoubtedly great good to be done by encouraging readers to take even homeo- pathic doses of Holy Writ. It may be good for what ails us all. Here is an idea whose time has come, in the words of Jesus: “Holy Father, keep them in Thy name which Thou hast given Me, that they may be one, even as we are one.” (John 17: 11 RSV) This plea to God by his Son is worthy, yes, com pelling of thought, because: 1, It issued from the heart of the True Head of the church. 2. It points up the basic condition on which that church may hope to succeed in its mission. 3. It reveals Jesus’ resource for power—prayer. 4. It challenges current denominationalism, for this eddying sectarianism diverts power from the central current of Christian effort. 5. The implementation of this single petition of our Lord would subdue @ warring world and bring the dawn of peace. Dr. Neal K. McGowan West Side Christian Church San Francisco, Calif. This age is richer than any pre- vious age in the means we may em- ploy to give the message of God’s redeeming love. This sermon is z ton is delivering at the Old Stone Church in the Easter to Pentecost oH He Evening Topic In the evening Mr. Touchton will be speaking on ‘(How We Are To Find Peace.” Our age knows a very great many people who are hungry for peace; and yet, do not know how to find it. The only abid- ing peace for the individual or for the nation is to be found in and through knowing God. Only as we commit our ways to His ways is it possible for us to have peace. True Christians across the cen- turies have often lived in an at- mosphere of turmoil, but within have known the joy of peace. In the days of the early church, the | God’ Christians were not afraid of im- prisonment or even beheading. The chief reason for the present hys- teria is in that our lives are not at one with God. At the morning worship, the choir under the direction of Mr. Willis Walker will sing “I Heard The Voice of Jesus Say” by Rath- bun. For the evening service, the 3 . | anthem by the choir will be “Peace I Leave with You” by Roberts. Oragnist is Mrs. Ruie Roberts. ef Rev. Forbes, pas- tor of the First Congregational Church will be guest minister at the 8:45 morning services at The Islander Drive In theatre, it was announced by the Church of the Rock today. His sermon, ‘When Man Walks With God” is based in the Six- th Chapter of Isaiah. A cordial wel- come is extended to all. Bring the children, be comfortable in your car and worship out of doors. At the regular 11 a. m. service in the Chapel at 535 Francis Street, William W. Hill, Jr. will fill the Pulpit. Peter Simpson will sing a tenor solo at this service. New Class The Sunday School, 10 a. m. in the Chapel, has recent- ly opened another class and two teachers have been added to the staff. Plans are in progress and materials ordered for the Daily Va- cation Bible School and advance indications are that this will have a much greater enrollment than last year. Having attained its first birth- day, the Church of the Rock held an Annual Congregational Meeting on May 12. Reading of reports by several officers showed a constant growth thruout the year. Member- ship increased by about 300 per- cent, pledges are above expecta- tions, the Women of the Church have contributed many necessary items to the Church and Sunday School and report a health bank balance; Sunday School attendance is steady and on, the increase. These things are accomplished on- ly by a splendid spirit of Christian cooperation and this spirit is plain- ly evident to even the casual visi- tor. i CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST Of Latter Day Saints SUNDAY SCHOOL 10:00 A.M.
