SOCIETY — PERSO DOROTHY RAYMER, Society Editor Wednesday, June 17, 1953 THE SHOP HOPPING WITH It’s a good, good evening to you too, and isn’t it hot? The old type- writer puffs and steams so much T have to cool it and me off with gallons of iced tea and coffee. Sure have been selling lots of stuff hereabouts, and you'd be sur- prised what I have in my noggin to peddle next. Just wait and see. In the meantime come on. . .we have | loads and oodles of shopping to do. mM M { Ws a very strange thing t afhy empty shoe racks at the Globe shoe store over on Flem- ing Street, so of course snoopy old me had to find out all about it, and you my friends, are going to be very giad | did. ‘The big calling-high racks have been cleared to make way for the big sale that starts on Friday of this week and lasis through Tues- day. These shoes are going to all sell for $5.00 a pair regardless of their former price, and they are the expensive high style shoes everyone loves, but few can af- ford to have many of. 1 was pretty sure our own little Globe Store wouldn’t get so ov stocked that they could put sale of this size, and found | was i i the famous names you ir in fine shoés, and don’t forget, $5.00 8 pair beginning Friday, ‘and through Tuesday. * * * My family has bad many an oc- casion to bless me and the fantas- ‘tic recipes I have tried on them. However, this latest blessing was with a low salaam when I served it last week. We aren’t any of us very big liver eaters, and of course when we do condescend we want calves liver at mumble mumble mumble a pound. Lately I've found that they go for chicken livers much more readily and these at much Jess a pound. Moreover, most ‘chicken liver re- ‘ combine them with so many : things a pound will feed an average family. T've taken to. saving the livers the freezer and when I have enough, preparing them as a meat course. Here's Bicssig a — scrumptious r new ipe comes in, 3 the livery, cut in half, alf slice of bacon for in Soy sauce for at least . Then drain, slit the insert a tiny canned chin ater chestnut in each liver half. Roll in brown sugar, half slice bacon around with a toothpick, roll in Sugar again and bake on a a 400 degree oven until con is crisp. It is delicious hot nights served with a salad, hot sormabies, and is. to visit little Ditty awhile with Box shovid almost fname to Ditty Basket, many and varied are the besk- featured there, in shape, size | and use, What a wonderful little | * | Westers aren't going to for- Michaels and her wond | colots of Key West very | t's howcum I get a little | ‘every time I see a blazing | poinciana, end know she isn’t it, However, while on Thad an opportun- Claudia and her , and the cute Ginny. These come in four, six and seven foot widths and’ are of course all six feet 'y” | long. Another hot weather item to help the lady of the house, love- ly fat brown casseroles for those plenics, or for preparing your dinner in the cool of the day and whisking it away fill eve- ning. These are too for only four marked thet they appetizing with the * 4% & I guess there wasn’t a woman in the world who was aware of the goings on in London this month who didn’t thrill to the thought of the coronation of the young queen, The pageantry accompanying a coronation is breathtaking, but when all this is made and it only serves to point up the startling beauty of Elizabeth, well it’s like a real live fairy story. It was a bit disappointing on television, so blurry, jumpy and of course only in black and white, It was only thrilling because of the thought that we were actually viewing at first hand an event that took place only a few hours be- fore. We had ringside seats of his- tory in the making. But the Coro- nation newsreels in color are the real thing to see. Don’t miss them. They will be popular for. years to come, and I'd like to see them many times over. * % & Anyone interested in a Para- keet breeding cage, an old crock or perhaps a stuffed owl? Well | know where you can get the age, and | wouldn’t be surpris- ed if you insisted on the crock or the owl they would come-up with both, and maybe ask you if you wanted a hoot owl or the horned variety. Naturally all this here now palaver is about the Warehouse Furniture Sales over on Simon- ton Street next to Benny’é where they buy and sell most anything of use in the home. Not all of the furniture is used, but even the new goes at ridiculous prices. For instance, there are two Chrome and plastic dinette sets there that sell regularly else- where for $149. The price tag at the Warehouse Sales is just $05! You can’t go far wrong on that. The tables are both grey topped plastic with chrome edges and legs, They are large ovals and will open to accomodate a family as large as the Woman in the Shoe had, The four chairs are plastic too, generously pad- ded, One set is red and grey, the other lovely bive and grey. * * * s Comforting note: Americans are now spending as much money for medical and health services as they do for tobacco and liquor.
