\ yee ide i me wa Conch Baseballers Whip Beach Here Thursday | The Key West High School Baseball team captured a7 9-2 victory over the Miami Beach High School nine on the | Page 6 Wickers Field diamond last night. The issue was never in| doubt when the locals scored enough runs in the opening frame to put the game on ice. Wildness on the part of the Beach to him, gave the Conchs a boost and they never lagged after. They came back to score another three runs in the second frame and wound up their scoring in the third with a sin-| gle tally. Wallnan was yanked with the| bases loaded in the first frame and reliefer Les Coiodony deliver- ed a wild pitch as his first offer- ing to advance all of the run- ners. But Colodony settled down after that and struck out tow of the next three batters to face him. Three free passes issued by Conch hurler Don Cruz and a line single by George Carrol gave the visitors their first run in the, second inning and they came back in the third to add their final score in the same manner. The Conchs were sparked by the fielding of Dick Salgado with} a double play in the final frame. With runners on first and second, he scooped George Carrol’s hard grounder just inside the third base line, tagged his base and heaved the pellet to first base to complete the finest play of the night. the left center wall brought the fans to their feet in the second| inning. Don Cruz and Lastres shared the hitting honors for the Conchs when Cruz, with a pair of singles and a run~batted in and Lastres double figured greatly in the win. Jerry Pita, who relieved Cruz in the sixth hurled good ball for the Conchs. The same two clubs will go back at it tonight at Wcikers Field with the action slated to get underway at 8:15 p. m. Coach Paul Davis is expected to start Bob. Lastres on the mound in search of his second win of the infant campaign.
