City Manager Dave King suggest- ed that the measur2 be passed following complaints from the city’s two licensed dealers that Miami firms were coming to Key West and operating without a license. King pointed out that the city has been unable to combat the invasion on the part of the out- siders, who have been operating without ‘licenses, since they are willing to risk assessment of the previous $175 fee. Since it has been increased, the poachers will be loathe to take a chance on coming here, King added. King also pointed out that the local dealers were required to buy licenses and that they have com- plied with all laws. In addition, they have. made investments in the city that should be protected, he said. The ordinance was approved by the operators, he added.
