Key Westers, Marathon Natives Own Subdivisions On Key Vaca; Constant Expansion In Sales By SUSAN McAVOY Real Estate Editor Key Vaca, the most booming of the Florida Keys, best known throughout the United States as Marathon. Pioneered by the Parrish family and others it today has numerous subdivisions, with a constant sale of land, resubdivision and expansion. One of the biggest developers in recent years has been F. P. Sadowski of Michigan who has carried out large scale projects, among them the Key Motel and its accompanying apartments, restaurant, yacht basin and other facilities. Chester Tingler is another of the: is leaders in development of Mara- thon. Among his major achieve- ments for the booming town was the founding of the Marathon Yacht club, worth thousands of dollars in publicity, as well as serving boat loving natives and visitors. Floyd Davis with his magnificent docks has contributed much to Ma- rathon’s growth, as has A. E. Woodburn and several other lead- ers. Though the acreage books at the Courthouse list some big acreage owners, the main interest in Mara- thon is in the subdivisions. Key West’s A. Maitland Adams owns 243 acres of Key Vaca with Norberg Thompson’s estate. Other Key Westers such as County Judge Raymond R. Lord have properties up at Marathon. Warren Sawyer et al is one of the families interested. The name I found most often last week in browsing through the sub- division assessment book at County Tax Assessor Claude Gandolfo’s office is W. A. Parrish. This week 20 subdivisions were studied in both the assessment book and the plat book of the county. Here are some of Marathon’s major subdivisions. The balance will be covered in succeeding real estate pages. 1, W. R. Thompson of Marathon, subdivision. 2. Bayview Subdivision, which is a resubdivision of the Parrish homestead. Parrish and Floyd Da- vis are large owners. 3. Sombrero Subdivision, W. A. Parrish and Harold A. Clarke are large land owners. 4. Woodburn’s Subdivision A. E. Woodburn et al. is the onwer 5.
