The need for three more class- rooms to accomodate an expected 1200 students at Key West High school next year is being presented, j for aid, to the U. S. Government. Superintendent of Public Instruc- tion Horace O’Bryant said that he has already made a general es- timate of costs of the needed ex- pansion to the U. S. Office of Education. The high school is gaining pupils at an ever increasing rate. This morning 14 new students signed up bringing total enrollment to 1090. Next September the number will be closer to 1200 or more, with new arrivals in the city and upgrading of younger students. The School Board will consider this problem and that of changing school board districts at its month- ly meeting tomorrow night at 7:30° These changes are being made to conform to the area districts of the Monroe County Commission. Meanwhile completion 0! Poin- ciana school’s huge expansion is still promised by February 1. At | present, however, only 50 per cent of the new construction is finished. Earlier, a 16-year old Tennessee girl had been taken into custody for the same reason. The pair were the 54th and 55th juvenile runaways to be found in Key West this year, according to County Juvenile Court Judge Eva: Warner Gibson. The Boston youth, after a fast bit of planning by County officials, was sent back to his anxious parents early this morning under the care of the Tavernier’s Aid Society. The boy’s odyssey started a week ago at New York’s La- Gua Airport when the youth boarded a plane for Jacksonville. After a short stay in that city the lad went on to Melbourne, Florida. There, he contacted his distraught parents in Boston who sent him money to return to his home. Instead of going to Boston, however, the youth ight a plane to Key West, arriving early yest y. After attempting to Purchase the plane ticket, the youth went to a flying school operated by George Faraldo at the airport saying that ...“he thought he would like to take flying Jessons,” Faraldo then took him’ up for a trial flight. Meanwhile, airline officials had notified Judge Gibson who sent a juvenile worker to the airport and when the youth alighted from the plane, hé was taken to the juvenile detention home.
