Wins Second Place Sleek Suicides Sail To Finish THE WINNING CLASS of boats in the Marathon Regatta last Sunday were the Suicides pictured of which there were six full sized entries. The little 14 foot Gannet Class racing dinghy of Lt. Comdr. Joe Brooks of. the British Destroyer: HMS Rocket, is shown in the right back- ground. .Though out of her class, the Gannet. raced with the bigger boats coming in seventh out of seven. Brooks brought his Gannet over on the Rocket last August. He and it are still in Key West though the Rocket departed last Saturday. The Royal Navy officer would like to sell the 14 foot boat: of molded one-quarter inch ply- wood before he leaves for the United Kingdom in three weeks. It has 130 square feet of sail. Brooks has served as liason man between the Rocket and Surface Anti-Submarine De- velopment Detachment. Marathon Commodore Bartelt, Wife And Racer The Marathon Regatta with its crowd of out-of-town yachtsmen points ; the way to possibilities for Key West. Key Westers, present at the regatta, expressed hope that some day the Island City might have the splendid facilities for visiting yachismen provided by the Marathon residents. These include six yacht basins, several hurricane harbors, yachtels and marinas.
