British experts are enthus- fastic about the chances of this new active aircraft to make the Atlantic hop. However, United States air experts have been cau-| tious in their appraisals and are said to be skeptical about the Comet II's ability to negotiate successful crossings of the Atlantic. It is interesing to note that if the Comet II {s capable of regular flights, it will cut the flying time re- quired to span the ocean by several hours. It might be possible for the Comet If to make the Atlantic cros sing in approximately six hours. If the flight could be made with- out stops along the way, which does not seem probable, the time might be cut to five hours. The newayvorthy part ‘of ‘Sir Miles’ promising an- nouncement is the prospect that jet commercial service may be possible over the Atlantic next year. The press, especially in election years, must strive to give both presidential candidates equal billing, despite the bricks thrown in the editorial columns. The truth is that our present Prosperity is being bought with the limbs, the bodies of our nation’s young people. Let the Korean po- lice action end today and the en- tire economy of the U. S. will go into a slump. Since, 1938, we've been living in a war boom. I, for one, am getting sick of it. A depression doesn’t ‘particular- ly worry me. At least everyone shares fairly equally so far as hardships are concerned. The pre- sent situation is intolerable though. A few white-collar crooks are get- ting rich through political machi- nations that are suppose to aid the United Nation’s cause in Korea. The majority of civilians are being fooled into thinking that this is prosperity because they get big pay checks, The pawns for the whole deal are our young boys who fight in Korea and probably have never had the opportunity to vote in an election. Any political party that is res- ponsible for present conditions should hang its head in shame rather than brag about it. That goes for either the Democrats or the Republicans or Communists. The United Nations represents most of the important countries of the world. It is impossible to believe that such a strong organi- zation cannot bring the present conflict to an end more quickly if it so desires. Actually, the Uni- ted States should be able to ac- complish this by itself. Someday those boys over in Ko- rea are going to come home. When they do, you and I will have to hide. How can we face them and | say that we did our best to help | at home when actually, the news- papers are proof that we are prin- cipally concerned with our own jpaty comforts and “prosperity’’?
