R. I., @— A squat bank robber today killed one policeman, shot two others and temporarily held two women as hostages in a commandeered home before surrendering to besieging police. The gunman, described as not more than five feet tall, invaded the offices of the Industrial Trust Company branch bank and screamed shrilly to a woman teller to put noney into a paper bag. She thrust loose bills into the bag and the man seized it and fled, emerging to run face to face into a bank guard mummoned by an alarm. The gunman leaped into his care- lessly parked car, had difficulty getting away, and headed for near- by Pawtucket with police quickly taking up the chase.
