His wife and sister rushed to the garage and were prostrate with grief at their sudden loss. They were taken to their home at 1501 Truman avenue bordering on collapse. Camero had recently completed directing the extensive landscaping of the new jail and courthouse in Jackson Square. He had been Cap- tain of Police, elected by the peo- ple under the old form of govern- ment, serving two terms, He came with the Key West police depart- ment 23 years ago as a motorcycle officer, Following his terms as Po- lice Captain, he resigned and went to work in the Navy Yard. He served as a fireman there during World War II. It was after the war that he was appointed Captain of the County prisom guard.
