Christian Trials At, Presb. Church At the First Presbyterian Church, White at Washington St. @unday moring at eleven o’clock, the Rev. Ralph Rogers will preach on “Christian Trials.” This is the third sermon on Christian living 8 given by the Pastor during the month of August. “It would be a monotonous world if everything went smoothly and was always lovely. It is good the individual to find that gs worth while are generally bought with a price and the things most cherished are just the things that have cost in time and effort. That {s especially true with re- ligion. The individual who takes it lightly is the man who gets little @qut of it. He is the man who takes a church vow and wanders off on Sunday morning to play golf or becomes so thrilled with gold that he forgets church to build a se. He has no religious prob- lems for he is more interested im his royal self. “The Christian does have prob- lems, trials, tribulations, If he is seriously interested he is going to do ‘something about biilding the xingdom- by giving himself, and by enlisting others. Paul has writ- ten more about such trials than any other New Testament writer. He suffered physical torture time and time again, but the greatest suf- fering was at the hands of Alexand- er, the coppersmith. This smart Alex really did Paul harm and a lot of it. What irked Paul most was not bodily injury, for we never hear of him feeling re- sentful toward the soldiers who bound him, the jailers who beat him, or the mobs who battered him. But when men opposed his message, when it was said that he had no right to speak as a representative of. Christ, when any- thing was said about himself, his qualifications, viewpoint, friends or ideas, which tended to belittle his authcrity and discount his message Paul grew rapidly hot. He said this coppersmith did him much harm. He had) no. tenderness for those who sowed tares in his fields.” Mrs. Ardelle Price, the organist will play for the opening number Prelude by Guillamant and for the Offertory Ave Maris Stella by Greig. reig. The y School will begin at 9:50 Sunday morning. Mr. Archer, the Superintendent has competent teachers for classes of all age groups. The Pioneers meet at 6:45 for a@ Social period followed by the Devotional Hour at 7 o'clock. Mrs. Ralph Noble is the Adult Leader in charge of this group. ie The Youth Fellowship will meet at/8 o'clock in.the Social Hall, Society Program A: recognition and universal ac- ceptance of the oneness of Mind, or God, opens the way to heaven, harmony, as all glorify was in Chr'tt.Jesus, This is the keynote of services to be read in all ....aan Science. churches next Sunday when the subject is “yep Two verses from the 67th Psalm (3,4) provide the Golden Text: “Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. Paul Touchton, x. pastor of The First Methodist (Old Stone) Church, will preach in the morning on the topic COUR- AGE IN AN AGE OF CONFUSION. “Nobody denies or doubts that this is an age of rapid transition. Speed always carries with it danger. It! is not an easy thing to live in| times such as these. Some people | are confused and afraid. The gos- pel in its truth and power enables one to live calmly and with con- fidence even in the midst of un- certainty.” At the morning worship hour the choir will sing Williams’ arrabge- ment of All Hail The Jesus’ Name. Mrs. will play as her prelude Gloria Tibi by Nordman and for the Of- fertory Chopin’s Andante in C\ Minor. In the evening worship service | Mr. Touchton will speak on the topic SECURITY IN THE KING- | DOM OF GOD. “All men are in- terested in security these days. In realm of the spiritual some people give too little thought to making their spiritual or religious lives in any way secure. They either do not believe in God or they think He is too merciful to bring to judg- ment those who are unfaithful.” At the evening hour the choir will sing O LORD, MOST HOLY by Franz Abt. The incidental solo part will be sung by Mrs. Earl Anderson. Service mén and guests will find a cordial welcome at this historic old church. Pastor James E. Statham says: | “Wholesome living today is crowd- ed out of our experience by worry, fear and anxiety. This unhappy state comes from placing too great Jan emphasis on wealth, pleasure sand prestige. Unhappiness comes when either or all of these fail and in our anxiety we fear losing that which we deem important. | Then resentment is built up and! we blame others and defend self! wondering if even God cares. God does care not so much for the loss} of that which we loved but He cares that we regain the whole- someness of life.” “The Lord is pictured as knocking on the door of the heart and saying that if any man will open the door, He will come in and bless him. To heal the broken hearted and the burdened mind the Psalmist advises ‘“‘Cast thy burden on the Lord and He will sustain thee” He will sustain us with a wholesome way of religious living. Note the joy in the statement of the one who said “I was glad when they said unto me let us go unto the house of the Lord.” Another man said in the scriptures “I would rather be a door keeper in the] | house of the Lord than dwell in | the tents of the wicked”. Let us meet with the Lord on His day in His house and find the whole- some way of living.” Cuban Baptist Mission 1122 WATSON STREET Dr. Ismael Negrin, Pastor |! Q. Esquinalde, Sunday Schoo!
