rege4 THE KEY WEST CITIZEN Wednesday, August 20, 1952 SOCIETY .. SOP ‘HOPPING JAXON Signs of Fall all around now. My kidlet starting to look forward more or less eagerly to schooldays again. More when she starts think- ing of pleasant hours of companion- ship with friends, less when she mourns the loss of afternoons in swimming. Other signs, the store windows, It gets down right shocking to see dark velvets, soft flannels, tinsels and sparkles, to say nothing of the fuzzy teddy bear coat in white in one of the local stores. And me sizzling away on the sidewalk out-| side! -| by Burlington of sheer i ATT ES Bek 53 i i ; 5 zef i j 2 & 3 2 § Pi ES gee 3 832 igs Fir a HH di | z i i ti ii HY ii? Only 59¢ and good for a gag, @ giggle, and to wear come the cool fall days. | like ‘em! Latest style news at Leona are the tailored skirts for school and office. One of rayon and acetate, just like wool with the extreme warmth and scratch missing is a lovely grey with black trimming for just $2.98. Another of navy bive gabardine with a block pat- fern and tiny side pleats will be good for all the winter months to come. Blouses to go with them nylon hand painted or fine tissue faile with delicate embroidery and open work. Sparkly things rem- iniscent of Xmas past, er. things to come. : x kk Ever have a sandwich meal? Here’s one to put together and save in the refrigerator for the hungry horde: Use an unsliced loaf of white rye or whole wheat bread. Thinly slice off all of the hard crust, cut cross- wise four thick slices of the whole loaf of bread and spread each side with butter or margarine. Select three of your favorite fill- ings of meat poultry, or cheese, fish, raw vegetable or egg salad. Spread one of each very, very, VERY thick on each heavy piece as you stick the pieces together. Be sure you spread each filling well out to the edge and cover with the top slice. A good piquant layer of chopped sweet pickle and may- onnaise doesn’t do any harm either. When the whole thing is built and put together, you are ready to frost and decorate. In a bowl, soft- en and mix cream cheese with enough milk for a soft spreading consistency, a dash of salt and if desired a little chopped fresh dill. Then take your mammoth filled loaf and. frost the sides and top like a cake. Garnish with half slices of thin cucumber and thinly cut carrots at intervals. Slice in wedges like a layer cake, and watch it go. us xk * Every cloud has a silver lining but not half as bright as the sil- ver streak in hair-de’s from Don- ald's, x kk Your week is half gone again. Done any of the things you intend- ed to do? Let me tell you it’s fun watching the summer weary stock in our stores being replenished by new sparkling fall things. Won-t you come out and shop with me? You'll like it! I'll see you around! Jaxon.—(Advt.) For Junior Debs i POPULAR for a junior’s leis- ure-time hours are pedal push- ers designed for easy action and comfort. The ensemble shown is of orlon and wool for cooler fall days. It may be laundered at home, rarely needs pressing. It's & Milliken’s Lorette.
