Highways To The Most High | 5. Pewr's Part Il | By Stephen J. In Part I of that at of everyone Constant this series we said during the life 1 spark of the Divine niversal Soul essence ne some touches the within- that this came through the heart or the mind, or both; that when it did, the Soul wakens, even and that man with awe, | if but for a moment, fen looks about him and a new wonder If we fF heed to this awaken ing are immediately faced with a problem that may plague us for and retard our growth. The exponents of the first category say this “The world is filled with evil, pain, | suffering and sorrow. To attempt | to alleviate it by willed action is like tr to remove a beach by taking away one grain of sand at | a time there- | fore if we y effect | upon it we must concentrate all our energy and effort upon im proving ourselves. Ralph Rogers of the First Presbyterian Church will take as the subject of his sermon “Some Tests of Reality.” “A group of juvenile entertainers some years ago entered the eleva- tor to be taken to the broadcast- ing station on the top floor and they were somewhat abused by the elevator man. When the lads were kicked off rather roughly the lead- er of the Gang soberly said, ‘Well, ” Sometimes we fall into a trance and have to pinch ourselves to see if we're alive, or if it is really us. There should be ‘Some tests of reality’ which would prove reliable,” ex- plains Rev. Rogers. “Normally we depend on the five senses to determine the worth of anything, whether it is the beau- ty of nature, the music of angelic voices, the taste of god food, the smell of good coffec on a frosty morning, or the feel of a silver coin in the hand of a hungry beg- | Sar. All our experiences are rela- itive and approach reality in pro- portion to the impression made upon the mind. Our reaction to such impressions determines the | worth and affords either pleasure or discomfort. Many experiences | we cherish are transient and seem more as a dream. The real test of reality is the depth and endur- ance of any experience and the most enduring and the most im- pressive are spiritual. “Now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known” ST.
