He may be a simian candidate for heli- copter piloting, which re- quires a lot of «coordination, but at any rate, his monkey- shines call for rescue since he is obviously lost. He was first seen by Capt. E. H. Eldredge, command- ing officer of the Naval Air Station on last Saturday af- ternoon when the captain heard a noisé in a tree in the backyard of his quarters on the Seaplane Base. Capt. Eldredge observed that the monkey had a belt around the waist and was evidently someone's pet. but he refus- ed to be petted. Chased by children who were excited by the appearance of the animal, the monkey disap- peared. On Saturday even- ing he had retreated under the building at Aeropalms. Not hide, nor hair nor tail of the tree-climbing visitor was séen until this morning when Comdr. Joseph Wat- son, commanding officer of the HS Squadron, called Capt. Eldredge with the complaint that a strange (note that) monkey was cavorting in the rafters at the hangar on ihe Seaplane Base. The men have been asked not to. frighten or harm the active visitor. Police have been consulted as to the best method on capture of the monkey and the Humane Society will be notified. The owner can claim his pet by calling Capt. Eldredge at the Naval Air Station or at his quarters this evening. Capt. Eldredge said that if the men at the hangar knew the monkey's name, maybe he would respond to call. Meantime, amateur Frank Bucks concentrat- ing on ways of capturing the fugitive from a monkey chain including food lures and monkey talk.
