NEWS OF ITEMS Special Interest ¢ ooking Group Ballentine’s Gumbo Enjoy Mr Some months ago, a group of women, most of them were discussing good things to eat and how to prepare the discussion came the organization of a special inte from mere chatting about food, a more re veloped. Now, every two weeks, the nucelus of the grot P. plus interested women who have joined it, meet and not only t about favorite recipes, but make them Yesterday, the cooking class met at the home of Mrs. John Ballen tine, 1416 Grinnell street, to talk over a famous New Orleans dish and to enjoy it. Hostess Mrs. Bal lentine has the kind of home 4 Blanding dreamed about type of residence which ought tc be pictured in magazines. The livingroom was cool and comfortable. The ladies sat about on the comfortable lounge chairs comparing notes with the true gourmet's enthusiasm. Mrs Au brey Hamilton and Mrs. Ballentine were in the kitchen. A savory sce: drifted into the diningnook. 1 fol lowed my nose, not the side for news, but the one that sometimes tells me what's cooking Mrs. Ballentine was _ stirring something in a huge cooking pot Mrs. Hamilton was fluffing some rice with a fork. I learned that the alluring nt steamed up from New Orleans Creole Gumbo Mrs. Ballentine vowed it was genuine. She came from New Or leans and ought to know. She smil- ed and added, “Mind you, I didn’t learn anything about cooking until after I had been married to John.
