The picture makes valiant ef- fort to carry a message, and in some respects, does so; but it is somewhat obscured by sensation- alism. Here is an evident attempt to produce a junior version of the much discussed film, “The Snake Pit,” with the action taking place among a group of wayward girls. Paul Henried is acceptable as the psychiatrist who seeks to bring about reform in a reforma- | tory. Catherine McLeod, as his pa- tient assistant and eventual ro- mance, gives a restrained per- | formance. But not a minx named Anne Francis! Of course, after a series of crises, she’s just a school | girl at heart, but you'll feel like giving her the old hairbrush treatment from the word go. I} suppose this speaks well fot her | portrayal of a juvenile delinquent; | but the.trouble.is, she’s. TOO. con- vincing at times. Outstanding interpretation is delivered by a small dark new- comer named Rosita Moreno. Perhaps she is related to the onag famous Tony Moreno, a silent film star. At any rate, her sensi- tive characterization of an over- wrought, pathetic, bewildered girl is something to remember. Her talent warrants prediction that she will be a star some day. _| If the art of photography as used in “The Snake Pit,” had been duplicated, this movie might have fallen into a higher category. As it is, it is interesting as a case | history, but that’s all, UTUMN BLOUSE _ . Bright Ribbons At Throat Social Notes veoeeccencecce is A Poets Corner +: by.
