Because the lucky sailor will be regally feted over the weekend in Miami and Miami Beach in a swank hotel and entertained royally by the best as a reward for being crowned KING FOR A DAY in the quiz-comedy show of that title to be given at 2000 (8 p. m.), Tuesday, 31 July in the Boca Chica Theatre at Naval Air Station. Key West. Flor- ida. The “KING” will be ac- claimed by audience applause from among four contestants fo appear on the stage in the rollicking comical and music- al show produced by the com- bined talents of personnel at the Naval Air Station. The contestants from the enlisted ranks of naval per- sonnel attached to Naval Air Station and the squadrons in the Fleet Air Detachment at Boca Chica Field will be sel- ected on the basis of their an- swers to five questions. All enlisted personnel who want to be KING FOR A DAY must submit their answers in a sealed envelope bearing their names, rate and duty station. The letters are to be addressed to Father Edward Riley. Chaplain. Naval Air Station, Key West and must be delivered to his office pri- or to 1200, Saturday, 28 July. in order to be considered for selection to appear on the pro- gram. Father Riley will noti- fy the commands of those selected. The glamorous Sans-Souci Hotel in Miami Beach will be host to the “KING” and guest. Two of the famed Bis- cayne Boulevard clubs in Mi- ami will entertain them. The Clover Club has arranged for their dinner and the Vaga- bonds will entertain them in their club. These are but a few of the surprises in store for them at Miami. $25 cash will be provided for inciden- tal expenses. Key West merchants have donated a veritable horde of prizes, too. The producers cf KING FOR A DAY are Dave Gor- don, Aviation Photographer, second class and Carl Brady, Aviation Photographer, third class. Both are atfached to the Photographic Laboratory at Boca Chica. The master of ceremonies will be Charlie Vallet. a well- known radio showman and quiz-master from New York. He will be assisted by smil- ing “Red” Ballard, Chief Boatswain‘s mate of the Nav- al Air Station. The musical entertainment will be provided by the Vin Dici Combo. a group of music- ians from Air Development Squadron One and Fleet All Weather Training Unit. Jack , Richards and Pat Ferro. the Harmonica Twins, will augu- ment the musical program. The “KING” will be grant- ed a seventy-two hour liber- ty to enjoy the all-expenses- paid weekend in Miami. The “KING” if married may take his wife is she is in this area or his best male friend. If the “KING” is a sinile man he'll be allowed to take his Buddy.
