VOL, LXXII. Note Sent To All School Principals Recommendations Made In Order To Stabilize Tutoring Of Pupils During Summer Months Assistant superintendent of the Monroe county schools, Leland S. March, has sent a notice to all elementary school principals regarding elementary summer tutoring. The recommendations made in order to stabilize the tutoring of pupils during summer month9 contain the following suggest- ions: 1. Tutoring should be done, when possible, by teachers com- pletely certified in the subjects being taught. This is a State re- quirement for high school credit, so why accept lower standards for the elementary school level? 2. Elementary students are not encouraged to study new subjects to accelerate their pro- gram, but should concentrate .én getting a good foundation first. 3. Elementary students should be tutored in any subjects which they -have failed for as) many hours as needed; but it is ‘desir- able that they should not re-study the subjects under the’ same teacher with whom they failed the preceding year. 4. Fees for tutoring are ‘sug- gested in order to ibe fair to No. 141 both teachers and. parents. Rec- are $2 commended prices the hour for one pupil; pupils; $1.25 for three and four pupils, and one dollar the: hour for five or six pupils. | 5. In fairness to both teachers | and students, ‘it is. not recom-| mended thatsa tutor attempt to teach two subjects during the same hour of tutoring. 6, Pupils may raise a failing mark in any major academic subject if they have studied un- der a fully certified teacher and have passed the standard test selected in that subject for their grade level. ’ This. test willbe ven between August 15 and Aga’ so it will be wise for sti futorin to plan study time so that can conclude the study close to those dates.
