Wagner says he’s still: president of Rollins college | despite a trustees’ announcement last night that he has been fired. In an éarly morning state- ment, Dr. Wagner declared "I am still president of Rollins College and intend to remain unless legally removed by the board of trustees. I will be in the president's office as usual.” Dr. Wagner termed illegal a meeting in New York April 27th when eleven trustees, a majority of the 21-member board, voted to oust him. Trustees who voted Wagner’s ouster replaced him with Hugh F. McKean, a 42-year- old art professor, as acting presi- dent. Wagner had been under fire from student, alumni and faculty groups since it, was announced that 23 faculty members would be dismissed and intercollegiate athletics dropped this fall. Eco- nomy was given as the reason for the action. Trustees voted to reinstate the faculty members. who had receiv- ed dismissal notices and to con- tinue intercollegiate athletics.
