ee ee ABOUT YUGOSLAVIA, TITo| KEY WESTER RECEIVES COMMENDATION Behind The World News By WALTER BREEDE, JR.. Associated Press Writer A good deal of water has gone over the dam since Yugoslavia’s Communist Dictator, Marshall Tite, broke with Moscow and the Cominform. ! Tt was two years ago-that this Communist family fight came out into the open. The reasons behind it remain obscure. But the outward effects are clear for all to see. From the Orthodex Communist point of view, Tito is Public Enemy Number One—all the Capitalists and Fascists and Imperialists and warmongers in- cluded. It was to no avail that Tito professed his continued leve for Mother Russia—his unshaken be- lief im the doctrines of Lenin and Karl Marx. He had dared to dety the authority of Moscow and the Cominform. And from all sides came predictions that his days were numbered. ‘That, as we just stated, was two years ago, and Tito is still going strong—the unchallenged and un- disputed boss of Yugoslavia. The expected reyolt in his own Yugoslav Communist party never came about. There was no in- vasion by Cominform - armies from the neighboring Commun- ist - dominated, Moscow - leyal states, And so far, Yugoslavia has managed to hold out against a ruthless economic boycott. As a.result of that Boycott, Yugoslay exports fell sharply, -as much as 20 pereent last year. The blow was softened by loans and eredits from Britain and the United States,- totaling many millions of dollars. With Russia and ‘the Comih- form snarling at his heels, Tito flunig himcelf into the arms of the Western Powers. In his speech to the Yugoslav Parliament on Thursday, Tito ealléd for friendly relations with threp non-Communist © neighbor statgs, Ai ia, Italy and Greece. For jthe first time he ‘exterided i: the olive branch, instead of the @rawn sabre, tery lat’s just about as complete’ a revetsal the wildest dreamérs’ of Balkan peace-cquid have hoped for. * from ideological _ differ, which run'deep, Tito has ‘up-to his. neek..imy territorial arguments \with his. three... non- Communist “neighbors. He has demanded part, of Macedonia,. in Greece. staked out a claim’ to Trieste, which once belonged to Italy and is now jointly occupied by Amer- ican, British and Yugoslav sal- diers. Now he expressed the hope t! these difficult territorial dis- putes can be settled by peaceful negotiation. He. has} a- hat | Chief Warren, SATURDAY, April 29;-1950 Barrow, Alaska.
