Missouri NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 31.— (P)—Efforis to refloat the *U.8.8: Missouri from a Ches- apeake Bay mud bank failed this morning. “The Navy had hoped an “extra high tide would aid in efforts to pull the 4,000-ton battléship off the mud. The tide was not as high as expected and the combined efforts of a fleet of tugs fail- @a to budge the huge war- ‘ship. The fleet of tugs huffed’and puffed for two hours this morning at high tide. There were 18 pulling tugs, two heavy-duty salvage vessels “tind eight small tugs. But the “Big Mo” staved put. So The Navy will trv all over @gain to get the battleship off the shoal in Chesapeake Bay where she’s been sitting since January 17. The Navy said at 7:37 (EST) it was ending its two- hour effort to refloat the ship. A new attempt will be * ‘High School Plays Bamboo Room At Gym Here Friday Key West High will have an open date this week-end for the first time in six weeks of play. The Conchs were unable to schedule a game for this week- end and to fill this vacancy, the high school boys will meet the league leading Bamboo Room of the city league Friday night. The game was originally s¢heduled for tonight, but has been set bak to Friday night, because of conflicts, with other activities. This coming week-end, the district teams will be meeting for arranging the District Tourna- ment to be held in March, . At the present time the Conchs have gone ahead, of South Broward with an eight won and two last record; while Homestead holds the lead with six wins and one Joss. Starting next Friday, the Conchs will’ meét four of the leading teams in the Miami area, land leaders of their league.
