Lee, who is Mrs. Rob-' ert Pollock, has the top feminine — lead in the drama, “Laura,” pre- sented by the Key West Players, beginning January 30. { Lee is excited about her role | and delighted with the work! which Leake accomplished in’ half a dozen sittings. The first! one took place at his art school | out on Flagler street and Second avenue. “In all, Mr. Leake took about 10 hours to complete my picture, beginning with a charcoal sketch, then a primary one in oil,” Lee said. “I found out that’ modeling for fashion, which I have done, and sitting for an artist, are two; > entirely diffe t fields. Believe me, the latter is much teresting although exhausting, ; too, since I had to sit perfectly still.” | She added that although she} was interested in art that her} own brush work was limited to painting furniture! i { | song | Lee, who looks as if the “Dark Eyes” might have been} writted about her, first became interested in the theater during} school sojurn in Boston, Mas- | tts | tly wante’ to be a ballet| I began lessons when I{ dancer. was about five years old. There she had associa- tion with famous show people in-| cluding Fred Astaire, noted danc er and movie star. She says he’s an extremely shy fellow with humble demeanor Marri: go to Bob Pollock, one of Key West's jewel- ers, brought exotic Lee to Key West. The old longing for the stage was reawakened when she went to a Players tryout just for a lark. She was selected for the leading woman’s role in the play, “The Night of January 16.” She took part in “The Guards man.” For comedy “Skylark,’ Mrs. Pollock was promoter and also helped with stage manage- ment and the decoration of the set “Honestly,” she emphasized,” as much as I like acting, I'm still satisfied to do anything else at the Barn Theater. I like the smell of grease paint, backstage or on stage. And it's all equally im- portant. Bob, my husband, is one of the behind the scenes men for ‘Laura,’ and he gets a lift out of working with our organization of Players too. Lee frankly admits that she likes the fire which goes with her role in “Laura.” She doesn't in- tend to emulate Gene Tierney, who had the part in the movie version, but expects to put her own ultra-dramatic _ interpreta- tion into what she terms modest- ly, “A flattering role.” “It's all exciting, with a sus- ;I live the part ofthe girl.
