Some 63,000 soft coal workers still are idle, and the walkout has forced the Crucible Steel Corporation to reduce its operations in Midland, Pa. Cru- cible has laid off 500 workers the coal shortage continues. At the same time, a General Motors spokesman says his firm has been notified by steel com- panies they may have to shut down this week for lack of coal. He did not name the steel com- panies. Another GM official says the huge automobile corporation will have to shut down in 30 days if the steel supply is cut off Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company also made plans to cut back production at its works in Youngstown, O.
