OSES Wants To Know If | Arnall, Talmadge | Eligible To Run Former Acting Governor M. E. biter of Georgia, came out bility this morning. He'said he hopes Attorney Gen- eral Eugene Cook will find that both former Governor Ellis Ar- nall and Governor Herman Tal- madge are eligible to fun for governor in 1950. Yesterday, Arnall asked Cook to clarify “Legal views expressed in certain political citcles” that he wasn't eligible to run. | Those “certain political circles” all surround Governor Herman Talmadge. It’s a question Talmadge sup- porters have dreaded. The answer might also go into the subject of the Governor's eligibility to run. Daily Program Ironically, Arnall’s request was BEE. ee, kien addressed to a man who over the past year has indicated he might like to make the race himself. Cook said last night he hadn’t received Arnall’s letter and would reserve comment until he had. Governor Talmadge, however, had a word. He said under the law, that the Attorney General couldn’t deliver an official option |’ to a private citizen. But Arnall foresaw that reaction. He carefully pointed out when he was Attorney General in 1940, he’d made an eligibility ruling for former Governor Eugene Tal- madge, then a private citizen. For months Arnall had had Georgia politicians wondering, apd worrying, over his intentions. In the past, Arnall’s present in- fluence has been held in low esteem by the Talmadge camp. But they are no mento under- estimate a possible enemy. And Arnall is one of the sharpest, and toughest stump campaigners ever to hit the state. What’s Doing at the Y.M.C.A.-US.O.
