No. 203 Alleged To Have Killed Shipmate Here On May 3 Hollingsworth Delivered To Miami Officer; May Be Tried In Key West John Benjamin Hollingsworth, 18, who is alleged to have shot | and killed Robert William Long, 23, an engineman 3rd class of the ; U.S. Navy, last May 3rd, and who is charged with premeditated murder, was turned over to the Federal Court in Miami yester- di jay. Hollingsworth, whose counsel, ! Attorney William V. Albury waived prelimnary examnaton befure United States Commission- ev C. Rodney Gwynn, was taken te Miami by Deputy Marshall Charlies S. Robbiins. Gwynn held him for the grand jury. Hollingsworth’s case will be considered by a United States grand jury. If he is indicted for murder he will likely be brought back to Key West to stand rial. Long was shot aboard a small eraft stationed in the U. S. Naval Base here when he allegedly caught Hollingsworth _ stealing pistols from the locker room of the vessel. . Leaving the scene of the shoot- ing, Hollingsworth fled from the Neval Station and then went back of the Monroe County Court- house where he changed into civilian clothing. That was the terse telegram re- ceived from Smathers, who was contacted by The Citizen to see lif his statement was-orrect. Officers of the Key West Naval | Station have announced that their : orders were to reduce the number of civilians vy 286. No word to reduce by only 78 has yet been received by the station. Registration Of New Pupils At Harris School Registration of all new pupils, whether beginners or transfers, is now under way at the Harris elementary school. Beginners must be six years old by January 1, 1950, in order September 6 of this year. Birth certificates must be brought in at the time of registration. All pupils will be notfied by mail after the 29th of August to report to their teacher at the school at a specified time either Thursday or Friday before the opening date of school. This short meeting with the teacher will cut down on the confusion that usually comes on the first day. School policies, regulations, etc., will be explained. Pupils will be told what they will need on the first day and will be is- sued books and materials. A preliminary check on lunchroom participation wil be made. Principal W. E. Myers to Cedar Keys at 10:00 am: Lower warnings on, the Florida Keys south of Key Large: The hurricane was centered at 10:00 am., EST—1500Z. 100 miles due east of Miami, - tude 25.8 North and Longitude 78.5 West moving west-north- westward about 18 to 20 mil per hour. The intensity and siz remain as_ previously reported Strongest winds estimated 100 to 120 miles per hour over small area north and east of center. Winds drop off rapidly south of center The center should reach the coast about 4 o'clock this after- noon in the vicinity of Ft. Laud- erdale or within 15 miles to the north. The greatest danger is expected from Ft. Lauderdale to Stuart area where winds will be strongest and shifting from northeast through east to southeast with high tides. Miami will be on the weaker side and winds will shift from north through west to south and will not exceed the lower limits of hurricane force. Hurricane warnings are played from Vero Beach south- ward to the greater Miami area and on Lake Okeechobee. Storm warnings are displayed elsewhere t coast from Fernandina y Largo and on the west from Ft.
