The selection of the Caices > of the award will be. made by aj Total board which will be composed ofj Total Jone member from each civic club in the city, a representative’ from each of the locally distribu- ted newspapers, the radio station, and three members to be. select- ed from the Legion membership. Letters have been sent to all clubs in the city inviting them to send delegates to a meeting to be held at the post home on Wednes- day June 15th at 8.00 p. m. for the purpose of ironing out vari- ous questions which may. arise and for the purpose of entertain- ing nominations for the honor. One’subsequent meeting will be,held at which additional nom- inations will be entertained and the final selection of the recipi-. ent will be made, The American Legion stresses the fact that the award will be made on the basis of outstand- ing service to the community, state, or nation. -No restrictions as: to race, creed, political con- viction, or - any. ee: Mimitin; circumstance ‘will and the final selection will be made by a secret ballot of the selection board, balloting being held until one candidate has a clear majority. Nominations for the award may be made by anyone in any walk of life, whether a member of any club or‘not, and may be made in writing or verbally. Persons making nominations may do so anonimously if they so de- sire. The only condition to, be made is that the nominee must be a bona fide resident of Key West in the judgment of the selection board. In order to help the board in making its selection nominations should if possible be accompanied by substantial evidence as to the accomplishments of the nomineey Nominations should be addressed to the American Legion. In announcing this award the Legion feels that it is making a sorely needed contribution to the local scene. It believes that nowhere else is there a greater proportion of citizens who are working in the civic interest without hope of reward. Many other cities make a similar award each year and the event is al- ways anticipated with keen in- terest. It is the hope of the sponsors |that this will become an _ out- standing event on the civic calendar here in Key West. Announcement of the winner of the honor will be made 24 ‘hours before the trophy is to be presented and it is hoped that complete secrecy .can be main- tained up to that time. Plans have tentatively been set for the presentation to be made on the afternoon of Sunday July 3rd at the Post Home. $50,000 Love Suit KNOXVILLE, Tenn.—Mrs. Eu- genia Hoylland Brendle, 15-year- old bride, has filed a $50,000 suit against her in-laws, Dr. and Mrs. Luther A. She claims that she and her young husband set up house- keeping and lived happily until Luther’s parents stepped in and lured him back home.
