Orlando U. S. Naval Station, Navy Wives Club No, 88 were hostesses at a buffet supper dance for enlisted personnel and their wives. This dance was given mainly to enlist new members for the club. A gala evening was spent with everyone entering into the spirit of fun that prevailed, which in- cluded two broom dances, with a broom being given to a counle at | the berinning of the dance, who had to pass it on before tae music stopped or leave the floor. The last couple on the floor with the broom received a_ comical! prize, one for the man and one for the girl. There was much and scrambling to avoid’; taughin having to take the broom. At 10:15 p.m. there was a grand march which ended at the upper tables where goodies of. all kinds were being — served. Relishes, celd cuts, baked beans, al varieties of salad, and an assortment of breads and cakes. The bar served beer and_ soft irinks throughout the ior refreshment. During the intermission, the drawing for the door prize was held, the prize being two tickets good for one chicken dinner each #t the Cosmopolitan Grill at 528 Fdeming street, donated to the club through the kindness of Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Boyer, proprie- tors of the Cosmopolitan. This prize was won by Mr. and Mrs. Warren Schimmeyer of 49-2 Poinciana Place. Mrs. Schimmey- er is the secretary of the Navy Wives Club. The White Hat Club was deco- rated in the club colors of Navy blue and gold, with the colors carried out on the serving tables, which had yellow cloths and a very novel centerpiece composed of blue satin ribbon bows, with long streamers, in yellow, high- pedestaled bowl set on a round The bows gave the ap- pearance of blue flowers, and made a very pretty picture. The ~<#deo was that of a club member, Mrs. Madelene Taylor. Back of the tables, the clubs placque was hung, which is an enlargement of the National NWCA pin. Several new members were en- listed during the evening. An announcement was made during the evening by the club president, Mrs. Vera Wood, in- | viting the ladies present to the new club rooms in Building 178 on the U. S. Naval Station. These rooms were formerly the offices of the Key Outpost. There was a Board of Director’s meeting at 2:00 p.m. yesterday, at the home of the president. It has been urged that all members attend this most important meeting of the club. Starting Thursday, January 13, the club will take over the Navy | Relief Thrift Shop for one day/ each week. This will be one of the projects which the club, to retain their charter in the Na- tional organization, is required to do. Volunteer work of all kind is done by the members, from help- ing Santa at Christmas time, to hospital parties, Aid, helping in the various drives, to serving on committees ) for the Chamber of Commerce, of which they are a member.
