(Contributed) Recently, members of Troop 5 Girl Scouts planned, and carried} out a “Tour of Interesting Places” in'Key West. | The first point of interest on! the tour was the museum at the Convent of Mary Immaculate on Division street. The girls viewed ihe | many. tanks containing beautiful- ly*colored fish and other speci-' mens of marine life. They found| the turtles most interesting. The | «denizens of the deep would come} up to the top of the water to be fed from the hand of the atten-} dant, The girls learned that the! largest. turtle in the pool was) about 200 years old and weighed | 500 pounds. The colorings of the fish, together with the colorings of the flower beds, made this a truly beautiful spot in our island city. From the aquarium the scouts went to the Key West Coca-Cola Bottling Co. at the foot of Si- monton street. Here the girls watched the interesting process of bottling this soft drink. They were shown how the bottles are first placed in a washer and then come out washed and sterilized) on a rack where they are inspect- ed and passed on to stop only long enough to be filled with cola andj carbonated water, capped and continued on their way to pass in front of bright lights for final in- spection before being packed in cases. The girls were then sur- prised with a cold bottle of coke} and souvenirs of their visit by} the management. | Continuing on their tour, the! girls. stopped next at the Sign Shop on Simonton street, owned and operated by Neil Saunders. ere the girls were shown allj sizes of signs and Mrs. Saunders | gave some rather instructive and | interesting points on sign paint-; ing. i Next on the list of points of| interest was the turtle crawls at! the foot of Margaret street. The; girls plan to re-visit the vis again at the time of unloading of | the turtles and to learn their his-} tory. Last Stop on the tour was made at Thompson’s Curio Shop on Margaret street...
