SOUND LOGIC |: ) Wess |city to straighten out some .|financial tangles. : “Let the city pay it,” has been’the recurrent: cry,.and those who'used it seemed to the many ern foot the bill. In view of that condition bobbing up) every now and pointed in his statement nothing to do officially’ wi by | holding the celebration and, |. therefore, he saw no reason why the city. should pay the 1 | bills. é That view is sound logic, the mayor will receive the support of the commission in refusing to foot the bills. However, the Citizen re- grets that. anybody has lost, or probably will lose, money in connection with: the cele- bration. The proprietor of a restaurant’ declares he is owed $1,100 for meals he supplied to Cuban baseball and basketball players. dur- ing their visit here. He deem- ingly doesn’t know where to turn to get the money due him. He has only to find the answer to a simple question to determine who owes him the money—Who__ ordered the meals for the athletes? Knowing the answer to that. question, he then knows who should pay the bills. It is a regrettable _ inci- dent, but the city is in no way to blame for it. Had the fishing tournament and the celebration of Marti Week} been held under the direc-| tion of of the Key West Chamber of Commerce, you may be sure that no bills would have been left un- paid, i President Truman, Washington, D. An extra day, the 365th, would be a world holiday and every four years, an additional day would be inserted as a holiday, June 31st. Propoents point out that dates would occur on the same day of the week every year. Anniversaries, such as Washington’s + Birthday, | would be on the same day of the week and special occa- sions, such as Christmas, would also have a set place in the week’s days. . We are inclined'to believe that the new calendar should be adopted because . it represents an improve- ment over that now in use. Men have had a hard time perfecting a measurement of time, but eventually, us- ing the rising and setting of the sun, the changes in the moon and the apparent yearly revolution of the sun around the earth, formulat- ed the systems now in use. There have been many sys- tems of measuring time and calendars of great variety Let’s make up our minds, as individuals and as col- lective. citizens, that some- thing must be done to cut down the number of acci- dents on the highways. and differences. The Greg- orian Calendar has _ been widely used because of its improvement over other sys- tems but this does not mean that it cannot be improved or that a new calendar would not add to the conve- nience of peoples. Other points in connection with the proposed calendar: Each quarter begins on Sun- day and ends on Saturday, contains three months, thir- ten weeks, ninety-one days. Each month has twenty-six week days—plus Sundays. Each year begins on Sunday, and the business year begins on Monday. By comparison, the pres- ent calendar, has quarters which begin and end on dif-. ferent days of the week, months that begin and end on different week-days, months with a varying num- ber of week-days and quart- .ers of unequal length, POULTRY SPECIAL Friday & Saturday CHARLIE’S POULTRY and EGG MARKET 801 Simonton Street -- Phone 1506 SPECIAL SELECTED Mick - FED CHICKENS and FRYERS For YOUR SUNDAY DINNER Fryers 45c u= We KILL, DRESS and DRAW FREE White You Weltt Open Seven Days A Week - We Have Long Dtetenee Treche to Supply You at All Times--Phene 1566 fer QUALITY POULTRY and 8668 . > Ay 915 Angela St. aprl6-6tx | ——_——_________ SEAN Bae Tee aintite poly = : ‘Wanted To Rent or Bia wieg| # DIVORCE | Plumbing. - suppli¢s, complete]. machine.
