Commissioners Louis Carbonell and Hunter Harden voted against the budget as passed but the other three members, Mayor, W. W. Demeritt, John Carbonell and Albert Cooper put it through by the expected 3-to-2 vote. The ; meeting lasted until neafly mid- night. Louis Carbonell reiterated his objections to (1) retaining the city manager’s salary at $6,000 instead of reducing it to $5,400, the salary received by the last city manager, Dave King; (2) raising the city clerk's salary from $2,700 to $2,880; (3) giving the city attorney an assistant at $150 per month; (4) reducing the pay of the city personnel diree- tor from $2,400 to $1,800; (5) purchase of a police car or motor- cycle for $1,700; (6) creating « new office of “license inspeetor” at $150 per month. Harden agreed with Carbonell on these matters except for the salary of City Clerk Roy Hamlin, whose pay increase he approved, and the provision fer an assistant city attorney.
