# t FRIDAY, DECEMBER 27,'1 New Electronies. Company Of Navy Reserve Formed Capt. E. M. Cooper, command- ant of the Naval Base, announced today the formation of a new U.S. Naval Reserve unit in Key West. under Commander E. J. Quinby, USNR. The unit will be known as: USNR Electronics Warfare Company 7-B. Commander Quinky « reported to Capt. Cooper a few days ago as} commanding officer of. the new company on: orders from Rear Admiral- Ralph Davidson, com- mandant of the 7th Naval District. Headquarters. of the company will be Building No. 2, Opera- tional Division Annex, Atlantic Area, formerly called the Section 1 Base. Latest naval electronics equipment will be used. Meet- ings will be held on Friday eve- nings and those who join the company will receive’ regular navy pay for the time spent in Grills, if members of the organ- ized reserve. Commander Quinby, who will also be the USNR recruiting of- ficer here, is endeavoring to se- cure members for the new company. He went on inactive duty ‘in May, 1941, and was as- signed as a student to the Fleet Sonar School. He was transfer- red to the New York Navy Yard as an electrical supervisor and was ‘returned’ in February of 1942 ‘to the Fleet Sonar School as an‘instructor. In May of 1942 Quinby was made officer in charge of the Projects and Experimental Lab- oratory, Fleet Sonar School, and on January 4, 1946, was appoint- ed officer in charge of the Naval Ordnance Unit Fort Lauderdale. For the past few months he has been engaged in transferring this unit to Key West, including five officers and 40 men. The Commander has been in- formed that the entire facilities of the Naval Base will be used from time to time to assist the reserve company.
